Today we had a mission to go where no man (child) has gone before. In attendance, were Jasmine, cousin Josh, and grandpa Lynn.
We headed to Washington D.C. to take in two of my fav National Museums.
After an adventurous trip on the metro train, we arrived at the Air & Space Museum. We tried out the new Combat Simulators. While the graphics were outdated, it was awesome for the mere fact it goes totally upside down. Feel the afterburners baby! I was pilot, and Jasmine was gunner. I would line up a bogie, then yell, ‘Long Range!’ – she would fire an radar guided missile. ‘Short range!’ – she would fire a sidewinder. ‘Guns. Guns!’ – she would pull the trigger on our cannon. We conquered the skys. And I flew upside down the whole time.
We went to an imax show next featuring the space shuttle. Much of the footage was old, but still breathtaking. The kids were getting bored though, not enough action I suppose – although they loved the clips of the astronauts eating in zero grav.
After lunch, we walked the mall to the Natural History museum. We toured the dinosaur, aquatic, and gem galleries. We ended the visit with a glance at the Hope diamond.
A good day.
