Delaware Vacation: Wednesday – Boardwalk

We started the day at a friends pool. Jasmine, Josh, and Savannah splished and splashed.

After lunch we headed to Rehoboth Beach. After the kids got their fill of rides at Funland, some of us walked the boardwalk. It was quite hot out, so we stopped at some shops along the way to cool down. We later met up at a local restaurant for a delicious seafood dinner. I had mussels and shrimp.

I can say we all were tired after today’s excursions, except for baby Jarrod who snuck in some naps.

Delaware Vacation: Tuesday – Smithsonian

Today we had a mission to go where no man (child) has gone before. In attendance, were Jasmine, cousin Josh, and grandpa Lynn.

We headed to Washington D.C. to take in two of my fav National Museums.

After an adventurous trip on the metro train, we arrived at the Air & Space Museum. We tried out the new Combat Simulators. While the graphics were outdated, it was awesome for the mere fact it goes totally upside down. Feel the afterburners baby! I was pilot, and Jasmine was gunner. I would line up a bogie, then yell, ‘Long Range!’ – she would fire an radar guided missile. ‘Short range!’ – she would fire a sidewinder. ‘Guns. Guns!’ – she would pull the trigger on our cannon. We conquered the skys. And I flew upside down the whole time.

We went to an imax show next featuring the space shuttle. Much of the footage was old, but still breathtaking. The kids were getting bored though, not enough action I suppose – although they loved the clips of the astronauts eating in zero grav.

After lunch, we walked the mall to the Natural History museum. We toured the dinosaur, aquatic, and gem galleries. We ended the visit with a glance at the Hope diamond.

A good day.

Delaware Vacation: Monday – Family

We started the day with a nice visit with Savannah and baby Jarrod (my sister Heather’s kids). This was our first time meeting the baby, he is very happy and adorable – just ask Jasmine.

We spend the afternoon with my Uncle Walter and Aunt Jane along with my Uncle Robin. Jane made a wonderful chicken salad with lots of veggy sides. She made the mistake of asking if anyone wanted chips. Jasmine and Walter said yes; they then pretty much ate the whole bag of sour cream and onion ruffles by themselves. I guess they bonded over the experience, because Jasmine felt comfortable enough to be tell Walter point blank – “I’m bored, is there anything fun to do.” Being veteran parents of two girls, they took it in stride and brought out the arts and crafts. Jasmine set to work painting and drawing while the adults chatted. The major topic being the copious amounts of rain that summer and the local influx of mosquitoes.

That night at my parents place we had a traditional Delawarean summer feast – blue crabs, shrimp, corn on the cob, squash, baked beans… Ok, I’ll admit, all my eating attention was focused on the yummy shellfish. I can go back to eating my vegies after vacation.

For dessert, my family brought out a birthday cake for Jasmine. It was yummy.
