Dance West 2013

Every year I take Jasmine to a dance performance. Right down the street from us is the Beaverton Arts Magnet school. We’ve been to their Dance West shows in the past, so I keep an eye out for new stuff.

I was happy to see the theater to be more filled up this time. Lots of great acts. We especially liked the tap dancing and the original senior pieces.

in Jasmine’s words…

“Today I saw the most incredible dances in a life time. There was hiphop, ballay, tap and gymnastics. The last dance was african.”

Poetry Coffeehouse

Jasmine’s class is finishing up a lesson plan on poetry. Today was their show and tell.

Parents joined their kids in the classroom to work on a family poem together. We also glanced through our child’s poetry journals. Then we all marched to the cafeteria to become the audience for poetry readings. Oh, no clapping is allowed – but you can snap your fingers in appreciation.

Sister Day!

Took Destiny and Jasmine to see a movie. It was a re-release of ‘Finding Nemo’. I forgot how scary that movie is! Between the sharks and barracudas and that monster fish in the deep dark with the light (shudder) ….just lots of scary parts and of course it starts with the mom getting killed. I could hear some young ones in the theater who had not seen it before crying.

Disney’s motto should be “We start your kids in therapy, so you don’t have to”

Destiny and Jasmine both had “head in the sleeve” moments but were troopers and had candy, pizza and soda to give them strength.

After the movie they convinced Jeff and me that swimming was next, so we carried over the water theme and sat in the bleachers while the sisters had fun. Destiny is quite the swimmer and was able to pass the test to get onto the diving board. Jasmine almost passed, still needs to work on her back stroke. She’ll get there.

We ended the day back at Destiny’s house where Patty and Brian served a great meal with lot of grilled veggies and fresh pineapple for dessert.

New Indian Restaurant

At the recommendation of our neighbor, we tried a new restaurant this evening: Swagat Indian Cuisine. The verdict is we like it. Very homey atmosphere – literally a home converted to a dinning experience. Lots of nice cherry wood colors.

We are use to buffet style with Indian Cuisine, so having to choose one dish was a bit overwhelming. The waitress made some recommendation which were good ones. While looking over the menu we saw this awesome salad being served to the table next to us. So we ordered that as well. It was delicious with a mild lemon and cumin type dressing and lots of cut veggies. Jasmine ate most of it on her own and finished her meal with Mango pudding.

Everything was really good and we decided we needed to come back for lunch and try the buffet.
