Scenic Volunteering

We volunteered at Columbia Springs today which provides environmental education to kids and has a working hatchery. We raked leaves, dug trenches, shoveled and spread gravel.

Jasmine was voted “Best Volunteer” of the day. I can see why, she did a great job shoveling. And we had fun driving the go-cart back and forth between the path we were building and the pile of gravel.

A Great Day for the Zoo

It was a sunny day after what seemed like weeks of rain and overcast. We decided to get some sun and head to the zoo. We discovered that many other people had the same idea as the place was packed. After looping around fruitlessly at the main parking area, we headed to the auxiliary site where we caught a bus. Jasmine and I enjoyed the bus ride, Emily would have preferred not to have that experience.

We visited the marine animals, the wild cats, and the elephants today.

Watching the graceful seals swim was so calming. We got to the penguins enclosure and it was closed for maintenance – we were disappointed. But on our way out of the park, we went through the polar bear exhibit and discovered the penquins had been temporarily moved to one of the bear rooms – without the bears of course. It was very cool to see the frolicking penguins so close up.
