Today we ventured out to the Cathedral Park Jazz festival with our friends Joe and Jennifer. The park is situated under the the St. John’s bridge, which as you see in the photos provides a cathedral like setting. The weather started out overcast and ominous in the morning, but since it is Portland, we waited a few hours and it cleared up nicely in the afternoon to the low 80s with a nice breeze to keep things pleasant. Our picnic feast included exotic cheese spreads, crackers, fried chicken, cherries and double fudge brownies. The jazz music and park setting provided a relaxing ambiance to just sit back and relax while we chatted.

Celebrating the 4th with cake!
This July 4th I decided to make a Flag Cake for the first time. Instead of topping with strawberries and blueberries I went straight for the food coloring and frosting. Because I am proud to come from a country that created Velveeta and considers ketchup a vegetable. Oh, and my brownies (in Jeff’s words) were phenomenal. The kids with me are Eli and Claire.
